Running in gym

Posted in General at 1:29 pm by Corey Robinson (81)

Can someone remember the songs we used to run to in gym? I think I remember, but I don’t want to say the wrong thing and jinx it. In grade 10, we had gym every second day. The first thing we did was a 15 minute run. Hall and Silversides would put on music for us to run to. Do you remember the tunes?

No guesses yet? OK, I remember one of them was Queen’s We Will Rock You. We’d stamp our feet to the drum beats, and stomp hard on the clap.

So what was the other common running tune? Anyone? A huge prize* will be awarded to the correct guesser!

*note, prize will neither be huge, or a prize.

I must admit that the only song that I could remember was We Will Rock You. I do remember other songs, just not what they were.

Well, the one I’m not sure about was a hooked on a feeling. It wasn’t the regular BJ Thomas one, but one with ooga chuka’s in front. I don’t know who did that one. It sounds like it was still BJ Thomas singing though. Those are the only two I can remember.

You must be referring to the version of “Hooked on a Feeling” done by Blue Swede.

Corey, It was B.J. Thomas singing Hooked on a Feeling. I grew up here that song at home and it does have the “ooga chukas” at the beginning of the song.

I know that in grade 12 the football team would do the worm to rock lobster song. Didn’t we run to some of the bee gees song, how about my sharona by the knack, or Y.M.C.A by village people, or I will survive by gloria gaynor. there were so many songs that I can’t remember them all
