Can we do this?

Posted in General, Reunion Planning at 4:57 pm by Corey Robinson (81)

OK guys, it’s crunch time.

At this point, I had hoped to find a lot more people. We’re looking at a reunion of 25 people at this point. Doing this at the school isn’t financially viable with that number of folks. I think I need some help here. I’m at the point where I have to start committing money to booking the various things need for that night (like food/music/liquor/hall rental etc.).

Feel free to give your opinions/feedback on this. Are you guys prepared to give a push and starting calling around to find people? If it’s all on me, it won’t get done. If we can get a hundred or so classmates to come, we can make it work. I’m prepared to give to the end of January. If we don’t have the critical mass of people needed by then, we’ll have to give up the idea of a social type reunion. No one would be more disappointed than I would be if we can’t do it. I hope enough of you can step up to assist in finding everyone we can.

What do you think?

Would it help is I posted a list of everyone in our graduating class so it might jog your memory on people you might be able to track down?

Actually, I like that idea. I’ll code something up so we can see the list, and have people who haven’t been found indicated in some way. The list on the right is the found list. Maybe just the ‘unfoundlings’ in a list on their own would work.

If the turn out is small , you may want to consider something like a back yard BBQ…Something along these lines..

I agree Tony, something will happen one way or the other. If it’s a back yard instead of at the school, well, that’s what we’ll do.

The crunch is because we need to finalize things now for booking the various services used, finalizing tickets and price, extra promotion, etc. We’ll work out the best plan that’s financially viable based on ‘projections’ at the end of the month. If we doubled that list on the right, I’d be comfortable with the financial risk.

Hi Cory some of the people I talk to did not realize it has been 25 years, I’m finding it hard to find the woman. What do you think of an annousment in the paper? Sometimes the news will do annousments! If you want me to check into it let me know. Tracy

I plan to take advantage of whatever free community event announcements we can on the radio, tv, papers etc. I really need to be a little more finalized, and have tickets ready to sell before then. That will be very soon. I may write an example announcement, post it here, and ask people who live out of province to seek out their local radio/tv/newspaper outlets and request they air/publish it.

Yes, finding the women is tough! I’ve tried to find some of the ones I’ve known and have fallen flat. The best shot is through their parents or brothers, if you knew them. I sort of know where Maria R. is, but don’t know enough to find her. I think a couple of people here know more about her whereabouts.

Well, I managed to find the site thanks to a Classmates e-mail from Corey. I don’t really know what happened to a lot of people. I remember meeting up with Karen Gay a couple of years after grad on a city bus and she was heading out to Chicoutami, QC. I think Linnie Goodhand ended up out in Saskatchewan maybe in Saskatoon - went to law school?

Don’t know if this is helpful or not but it sure was nice to see the web-site and read the posts. I’ll keep checking back.

Is there anyone out there that can dig out their yearbooks and send in class lists for graduation years 1980, 1982 and 1983? I will also try to find my yearbooks (in a box somewhere). If we can get typed lists of students from these years, we can then start trying to contact more of them ASAP. It would be great to get as many as possible to this reunion.

Any names and contact information (email or phone) would help. Let’s really try to contact more people to make this reunion great.

Put the word out as much as possible for grads that you are in contact with to log onto this site and buy tickets to the reunion.

    Thanks.

I would have loved to be a part of this reunion, however, it is very difficult at this time due to my business.

All the best to those from the class of 1983!

    Hey Cori,

Last time I saw Ahmed Eltassi he was working at Picasso’s restaurant on Sargeant. That was some time ago but I’ll talk to someone there and see if I can find him and his sister.
